The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) is one of the world’s most influential cancer research institutes. Our mission is to make the discoveries that defeat cancer. We have a long and distinguished history of research with a major impact on the outcome for cancer patients. Our unique partnership with The Royal MarsdenNHS Foundation Trust (RMH) makes us the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe, performing high quality original basic research and translational studies. Under the leadership of Chief Executive Professor Alan Ashworth FRS, we are committed to attracting, developing and retaining the best minds in the world. The ICR was ranked as the UK’s top academic research centre in the 2008 Higher Education Funding Council Research Assessment Exercise. Based on our publication record, citations and impact we rank among the world’s leading cancer research centres

The recently established Cancer Research UK Cancer Imaging Centre (CIC) is focused on the development of better quantitative imaging biomarkers for the assessment of drugs mechanisms, disease heterogeneity, and therapy response. The Pre-Clinical Molecular Imaging group is currently being established under Dr Gabriela Kramer-Marek between the Division of Radiotherapy and Imaging & Division of Cancer Therapeutics.

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Training Fellow to work on the development and characterisation of novel molecular and functional imaging probes particularly for in vivo detection and quantification of cancer biomarkers that determine tumour response to therapy, with special focus on targeting cellular signaling pathways (e.g. HER3/PI3K/AKT).

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to learn and apply different molecular imaging techniques and use pre-clinical models with strong potential for translational research. All the scientific disciplines are in place to support this.

The applicant should have laboratory experience and be competent in general molecular and cell biology and be willing to undertake further on-the-job training in various techniques. Experience with pre-clinical models including xenograft tumour development is essential. We expect the candidate to be well-organized, work independently, and possess a strong ability to solve methodological problems. The key selection criterion will be the motivation of the candidate and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and support research with a high level of intellectual creativity, persistence and dedication.

The appointment will be for 3 years in the first instance with a starting salary in the range of £28,425 to £40,628 p.a. inclusive, depending on experience and benefits from a contributory defined benefit pension scheme and generous leave entitlement. Further information can be found in the full job description
