Laboratory position opening for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to perform cell and molecular biology studies. The project investigates novel endocrine actions of myostatin, a potent negative regulator of striated muscle growth and development, and has both biomedical and agricultural implications. It will specifically address myostatin action on pituitary development and the systemic regulation of growth factors.

Position Details:
Candidates will work on one project with the objective to define mechanisms of myostatin growth regulation in the pituitary or liver. The position provides opportunities to learn various techniques including primary cell culture, histology, genotyping, management f mouse breeding colonies, immunocytochemistry, confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, basic recombinant DNA methodology, qPCR and protein biochemistry (western blotting, immunoprecipitation, ELISA, etc.). Experience with any or all of these techniques or with fate mapping in murine models is desired.

Position Details Continued:
Washington State University and the Washington Center for Muscle Biology offer excellent resources for postdoctoral training. This includes monthly muscle biology group meetings, faculty exchange seminars between WSU and the University of Washington and access to muscle-related seminars in several academic units. The center itself is composed of 70 research labs with interests in muscle biology and provides access to several core facilities. Pullman, WA is located on the beautiful Palouse and is close to many ski resorts, blue-ribbon trout streams and hiking and camping sites in the mountains. Running and cycling (road and trail) are also extremely popular in the area with several opportunities for racing and training. Pullman is just 8 miles from Moscow, ID and the University of Idaho, which together make a diverse and progressive community that was recently voted the best place to raise children by Businessweek Magazine.

Dr. Rodgers is an experienced mentor and the recipient of the university's Mentor of the Year award. He is also a member of the prestigious Graduate Student Mentor Academy. For more information about his research and mentoring programs and on the center, please visit the websites below:
