Description
Postdoctoral Research Fellow in unrepeatered transmission systems Fixed Term (2 years) Salary: £37,756 - £45,053 (exceptionally up to £50,688) per annum plus mobility allowance Applications are invited for an experienced researcher in the field of fibre Raman lasers and amplifiers in application for unrepeatered coherent transmission: design, theoretical and experimental characterisation. FP7 IAPP GRIFFON aims to address the disruptive change in information and communication solutions towards drastic energy saving (green) technologies in the context of fast development and delivery of new technology, as well as cross-sectoral and multi-disciplinary staff training. GRIFFON offers increased communication capacity through coherent technique with advanced modulation formats and polarisation multiplexing of signals, increased distance and reduced power consumption by applying an ultra-long second cascade fibre Raman amplification with supressed polarisation impairments, viz. polarisation dependent gain (PDG) and polarisation mode dispersion (PMD). The successful applicant will join an established team within the Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies, will carry out research in purpose-built photonics communications research facilities at Aston University, and will involve collaboration with industrial project partners with operating to short timescales. You should have substantial research experience; a PhD related to optical communications and/or equivalent experience in the photonics industry; track record in modelling of fibre Raman amplifiers and lasers; skills in coherent communication technologies would be an advantage. The researcher would be a Marie Curie Fellow funded by a grant under the European FP7 IAPP program. As a requirement of the grant these positions are open only to researchers not residing or having their main activity in the country of the beneficiary home organisation (i.e. UK) for more than 12 months in the last 3 years.
