A postdoctoral position is available for a highly motivated candidate in the laboratory of James McCormick, PhD, at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, to contribute to our discovery program, and receive training in renal and ion transport physiology. We recently identified a novel kinase signaling network that regulates cation cotransporter activity in the kidney, with implications for the development of new anti-hypertensive therapies. The successful candidate will primarily perform studies in knockout mice to dissect the mechanisms by which these kinases regulate electrolyte homeostasis and blood pressure. Our group also employs techniques including cell culture and biochemical approaches, so diverse training opportunities exist. Candidates with a doctoral degree that includes training in physiology and/or pharmacology, with small animal surgery experience, are especially encouraged.
The candidate should have excellent oral and written communication skills, and will be expected to present research findings at scientific conferences, compose manuscripts, and assist in experimental design.
