Description

The Berkeley Energy and Climate Institute (BECI) invites postdoctoral researcher applications for our Philomathia Fellow Program. The BECI Philomathia Fellowship was established in 2013 by an endowment from the Philomathia Foundation.

Successful applicants will join our current cohort of fellows with a special interest in cutting-edge research on energy systems and/or climate change focusing on science and technology. We are seeking a postdoctoral scholar with excellent credentials in their field as well as strong interests in advancing collaborations within a community of like-minded individuals from across campus. In particular, we are interested in applications from individuals whose research will broaden the research diversity of our community.

The Philomathia fellow will become part of and contribute to a growing ecosystem that brings together faculty, postdoctoral researchers, students, staff, and alumni to form a strong network that assists researchers in advancing Energy Systems and Climate Change research. Information on our working groups and projects can be found at http://beci.berkeley.edu/.

This is a full-time postdoctoral research appointment for two years, with a flexible start date between the spring and summer of 2016. Primary duties will focus on research that advances science and technology discovery across one or more domains, as stated in fellow's application. In addition, the fellow will be expected to participate in BECI working group activities, BECI sponsored educational events and annual retreat activities, and contribute to building a community of engaged researchers.

Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. in a discipline related to Energy Systems and/or Climate Change. Examples include architecture, biology, chemistry, computer science, and all fields of engineering. Applicants in law, public policy, social science, urban planning, as well as interdisciplinary environmental programs will also be considered.

A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in relevant fields is required by the start date and no more than 3 years of research experience since receipt of degree. At the time of application, the basic minimum qualification is the completion of all degree requirements except the dissertation.

Additional preferred qualifications:

• Experience in energy systems/and or climate change in research projects

• Experience participating in an interdisciplinary collaboration with domain scientists from varied areas beyond the original training discipline

• Participation in writing grant proposals
