UQ Centre in Stem Cell Ageing and Regenerative Engineering (UQ-StemCARE)

THE UNIVERSITY OF QUEENSLAND, BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA

UQ is seeking to recruit researchers to join the newly established UQ Centre in Stem Cell Ageing and Regenerative Engineering (UQ-StemCARE). The Centre, located within the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN) brings together The University of Queensland’s leading researchers in stem cell biology, bioengineering, neural, vascular, and musculo-skeletal biology, genome biology, proteomics, bioinformatics, and clinical ageing-related research, to address the following challenges:

1. Discover the intrinsic and extrinsic regulators of stem cell ageing within in vivo perivascular, muscle, skeletal and neural stem cell niches;

2. Develop novel in vitro and in vivo models to interrogate the functional interactions between the intrinsic and extrinsic processes that result in ageing of stem cells and their niches in these tissues;

3. Demonstrate that manipulating novel key regulators can maintain stem cell and tissue function with age; and

4. Translate the scientific results into clinical solutions with medical and commercial potential.

The Centre is seeking to recruit eight postdoctoral researchers to establish the Centre.

The role: The Postdoctoral Research Fellows will perform top-quality, high impact research in stem cell, niche and systemic ageing; engineer novel in vitro and in vivo ageing models; and design novel regenerative solutions to combat aging-related decline in function and productivity and increase health span.

The person: Applicants should possess a PhD in a relevant field and have demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas: Stem cell culture; Cutting-edge molecular biology techniques; CRISPR genome engineering; In vitro organoid generation and interrogation; High throughput robotic cell culture, screening and interrogation of data; Mouse and/or human in vitro and in vivo models of ageing; Polymer hydrogel synthesis/functionalisation, characterisation and biological validation; Biomicrofluidic device design, fabrication, and validation. Strong motivation with the ability to work independently and design / interpret experiments with excellent organisational skills is essential.

Remuneration: These are fixed-term, full-time appointments for up to three years at Research Academic Level A or B. The remuneration package will be in the range AUD$79,170 – $84,985 p.a. (Level A) or AUD$89,458 – $106,232 p.a. (Level B), plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17%. Total package will be in the range AUD$92,629 – $99,433 p.a. (Level A) or AUD$104,666 – $124,291 p.a. (Level B). Appointment level will be dependent on qualifications, skills and experience.
