Fatigue Behaviour of Steel Connections in Potash Mine Service Shafts
The Structures and Materials Group in the Department of Civil and Geological Engineering is conducting a research project investigating the fatigue behaviour of connections for the steelwork used in a potash mine service shaft under simulated slam forces from payload skips. The project is expected to include fatigue testing and analysis of full-scale sub-assemblies of shaft steelwork using state-of-the-art equipment, including a digital image correlation system capable of measuring the entire displacement and strain field of the sub-assemblies. We are seeking a qualified postdoctoral fellow to take the lead in planning and overseeing this project.
The ideal candidate will possess a Ph.D. in Structural Engineering, and experience with conducting physical tests of structural elements in a well-equipped laboratory setting using modern sensors and data acquisition systems. Prior experience with fatigue testing and a background related to fatigue theory and analysis are highly desirable, as is experience with finite element modelling of fatigue behaviour.
Start date: The position is open immediately. A start date as soon as possible is preferred.
Salary: $42,000 per year (minimum)
Duration: One year, with potential for extension.
