  Job Description

  Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):

  Doctoral Degree or foreign equivalent in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related discipline in hand by May 31, 2019. Strong background in biophysical science. The ability to program and navigate in a unix-based environment (e.g. C++, python, shell scripting) and prior experience using atomistic molecular modeling methods (e.g. docking de novo design, MD, Monte Carlo) to study protein-ligand binding. Strong communication and writing skills are essential.

  Preferred Qualifications:

  Grant writing experience. First-author peer reviewed publications.

  Brief Description of Duties: The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator, Dr. Robert Rizzo, in the department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics. The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.

  • Development of improved methods for docking, de novo design, and molecular evolution.

  • Lead discovery targeting biological systems involved in human disease (HIV/AIDS, cancer, pain/inflammation, Ebola, and Zika, among others) using the program DOCK

  • Lead refinement of active compounds using DOCK and molecular dynamics programs such as AMBER and NAMD

  • Participation and assistance in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and presentations.

  • Participation in grant writing.

  • Lab maintenance and ordering of supplies

  • Other duties as assigned, attending scientific conferences and meetings.

  The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption. Candidates should ensure their CV includes names and contact information for three references. In addition, all applicants should upload a cover letter outlining scientific training, prior experience, and research interests in the area of computational structural biology. Two year appointment contingent upon satisfactory progress after first year.
