Earlham研究所分子生物学、植物生物学、合成生物学、生物化学博士后招聘

时间:2019-01-21来源:中国博士人才网 作者:佚名

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join the Laboratory of Dr Nicola Patron to work on a collaborative project to engineer plant responses to nitrogen availability.

  Background:

Genetic variations within coding sequences have been heavily exploited for crop improvement. However, quantitative, complex traits that respond to changes in the environment are the result of genetic and epigenetic variation in the non-coding regulatory sequences of multiple genes. For example, in response to changes in environmental nitrogen, plants modulate their root system architecture, vegetative biomass and even flowering time. Recent work has uncovered a suite of genes that coordinate the complex plant responses to environmental nitrogen. However, breeding crops with the numerous combinations of mutations that may be necessary to influence complex traits such as nutrient use efficiency is prohibitively complex and laborious. Multiplexed genome engineering provides the possibility of engineering multiple useful alleles in a single step.

The aim of this project is to deploy genome engineering tools to introduce multiplexed targeted mutations in specific coding and non-coding genic regions of a group of plant genes predicted to coordinate large-scale transcriptional responses to environmental nitrogen availability.

  The Role:

The successful candidate will participate in the design and assembly of DNA constructs. They will also be involved in the production and molecular and phenotypic assessment of engineered plant lines. The post holder will additionally contribute to the development of novel genome engineering tools for plants.

The post-holder will be based in the Patron Lab at the Earlham Institute, Norwich UK and will work in collaboration with the Brady and Segal Labs at the University of California at Davis.

  The Ideal Candidate:

The candidate must have a PhD in Molecular Biology, Plant Biology, Synthetic Biology, Biochemistry or a related subject. They must also be able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of plant genetics and the regulation of gene expression in plants. They should have experience in general plant molecular biology laboratory techniques and a demonstrated interest in plant genome engineering, nitrogen metabolism or gene regulatory networks. Candidates with experience in the production and analysis of genome engineered plants, or in the growth and analysis of Arabidopsis plant lines will be preferred.

  Additional Information:

Salary on appointment will be within the range £31,250 to £38,100 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This is a fulltime post for a contract of 23 months from 1st April 2019.
