The German Cancer Research Center is the largest biomedical research institution in Germany. With approximately 3,000 employees, we operate an extensive scientific program in the field of cancer research.

The Division of Regulatory Genomics and Cancer Evolution is seeking a

  Postdoctoral Fellow

  (Ref-No. 2019-0102)

  Description:

The Odom laboratory experimentally explores the mechanisms of transcriptional and transcriptional regulatory evolution in mammals and how this informs our understanding of the cancer genome. Our eventual goal is to understand how perturbation of these transcription factor networks can influence cancer inception and progression in humans. The Odom laboratory uses an integrative and collaborative approach, working closely with research groups at DKFZ, EMBL, the European Bioinformatics Institute in Hinxton UK and at Heidelberg University.

A successful candidate will have unusual latitude in designing their research project in close discussions with Dr. Odom. Currently available research projects in the Odom laboratory include: investigation of how CTCF lends stability to vertebrate genomes during ageing, the mechanisms underlying ageing associated increases in cell-to-cell transcriptional variability and the comparative functional genomics of mammalian somatogenesis.

Projects involve close collaboration with computational and clinical partners and other Odom laboratory team members with different areas of expertise. The post holder will be responsible for project management, method development and optimisation, collection and analysis of novel and large genomic datasets.

  Your profile:

We are seeking a postdoctoral research fellow with extensive molecular biology / genomics expertise to join our efforts, who is collaborative, ambitious, meticulous, scientifically adventurous and curiosity-driven. Prior research experience in single-cell methodologies, transcription, transcriptional regulation, epigenetics, evolutionary biology, bioinformatics and/or comparative genomics would be advantageous. We also encourage applications from accomplished graduate students seeking to switch research fields. The DKFZ (and Dr. Odom as a mentor) strongly encourages candidate-driven efforts to obtain competitive fellowships and career development awards.

The position is limited to 2 years.

The position can in principle be part-time.

  For further information please contact

Dr. Duncan Odom, phone +49 622142-3446.

The German Cancer Research Center is committed to increase the percentage of female scientists and encourages female applicants to apply. Among candidates of equal aptitude and qualifications, a person with disabilities will be given preference.

To apply for a position please use our online application portal (www.dkfz.de).

We ask for your understanding that we cannot return application documents that are sent to us by post (Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum, Personalabteilung, Im Neuenheimer Feld 280, 69120 Heidelberg) and that we do not accept applications submitted via email. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
