Postdoctoral Research Position (Molecular Biology/Biochemistry)
A postdoctoral research associate position is available to study mechanisms of translation and of translation-associated quality control processes in eukaryotes in the laboratory of Tatyana Pestova and Christopher Hellen at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, USA. Our NIH-funded research uses state-of-art biochemical and molecular biology approaches to characterize molecular mechanisms of (1) canonical and non-canonical modes of translation initiation in mammals, including IRES-mediated initiation, (2) physiologically important specific cases of translational regulation, (3) translation termination and ribosome recycling, and (4) events downstream of termination, with a major focus on quality control processes including mRNA surveillance and ribosome-associated quality control.
Required qualifications strictly include a Ph.D. in the field of Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or a related field, and practical experience in RNA and/or protein biochemistry, including the expression and purification of native/recombinant proteins and the functional analysis of proteins and RNA-protein complexes. Our research involves active collaborations with cryoEM laboratories, and experience in structural biology and/or in investigating aspects of eukaryotic translation and associated quality control processes would therefore be helpful. Candidates should be highly motivated, be able to work independently and show excellent critical thinking, scholarly ability and communication skills.
Review of applications will begin immediately until the position is filled. To apply, please send, your curriculum vitae (with a summary of research experience and a list of publications), a cover letter discussing your interest in a position and stating the expected availability date, and contact information for three references to:
