Research in two-dimensional materials such as graphene and combinations of them has lead to many new insights in recent years, with applications including wearable electronics and sensors for medical and other purposes. Also, there is ongoing research into novel energy-efficient optoelectronic devices based on the high tunability of graphene and novel single-photon light sources in 2D materials.
A two-year theoretical postdoctoral position is available in the Structured Electromagnetic Materials group at the Department of Photonics Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark. The research project is funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark. The group is part of two Excellence Centers, the Centre of Excellence in Nanostructured Graphene (CNG) and The Center for Nanophotonics (NanoPhoton). The postdoc will spend a few months at a foreign research partner as an external stay.
Two well-known quantum light sources in bulk materials are defects centers and quantum dots, with numerous sensing, lighting, and laser applications. It was discovered in the past few years that the analogous two types of quantum light sources also exist in 2D materials, and their science and applications are only beginning to be explored. For this project we invite talented and enthusiastic young researchers to consider working with us on various types of quantum emitters that can be found or created inside 2D materials. We want to find new ways to generate these single-photon sources and to understand and manipulate their properties.
Quantum emitters in 2D materials may become important for quantum information technologies and as new light sources on the nanoscale. The research project of the postdoc involves a combination of theory and simulation, and collaboration with other theorists and experimentalists working on the same topic (see our simultaneous other advertisement for an experimental PhD student). We have access to high-power computing facilities on campus.
Candidates should have successfully completed their PhD or almost have done so, and we look for candidates with strong theoretical and computational skills in nanophotonics and/or quantum optics.

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 2 years. Starting date is October 1 2020 or soon thereafter.
