Description of the JobJOB SUMMARY This NIH-grant funded postdoctoral fellowship position will perform experiments within a research laboratory focused on the development and testing of pre-clinical models to treat breast cancer metastasis. The postdoctoral fellow will perform experiments utilizing cell culture, genomics, immunohistochemistry, and animal models to identify and test therapeutic compounds. Standard daytime (8AM-5PM) work hours are required with occasional weekend time, as needed. •Conducting directed and self-directed research (70%): The major task for this position will be to perform complementary mouse and cell culture based studies to identify new therapeutic approaches to treat metastatic breast cancer. This includes working with human cancer cells, both established cell lines and patient-derived xenograft models. Many studies will be focused on generating hypothesis-generating data and will include genomic based studies such as bulk/single-cell RNA-sequencing. The majority of research conducted will utilize mouse models, including injecting human and mouse cancer cell lines, administering therapeutic compounds, and assessing their effectiveness. Other studies will include treating human and mouse cell lines under sterile conditions in the lab to assess mechanism of action of the drugs (RT-PCR, RNA-sequencing, Western blots/proteomics). Some paraffin sectioning and immunohistochemistry will be also be employed. •Writing (15%): Ability to write/edit scientific manuscripts. This includes collecting previously published research and writing how the new research contrasts with existing lab data and previous studies. •Organization and record keeping (10%): Daily updating and management of laboratory records. This includes hard copy laboratory notebooks as well as online databases such as Google based spreadsheets. Weekly lab consumable inventory and notifying the Principal Investigator of items needed to order. •Other duties as assigned (5%).
