The incumbent will use their cell and molecular biology expertise to perform focused studies that evaluate novel HS variants as media additives for cell therapy manufacturing. The candidate is also expected to conduct and direct research into mechanism of action studies linking HS with stem cell fate decisions, particular human mesenchymal stromal cells and hematopoietic stem cells.

Key responsibilities include:

Research

Conduct in vitro-based human stem cell studies to identify lead heparansulphate candidates for cell therapy manufacturing.

Apply cell and molecular biology techniques to establish the mechanism of action linking HS with cell fate decisions.

Develop a leadership role in independent and/or team research programs and achieve recognition and impact in the research area.

Write progress reports and publish scholarly papers in academic peer- reviewed journals.

Participate in applications for competitive research funding.

Work with colleagues and postgraduates in the development of interdisciplinary joint research projects.

Significant experience with human pluripotent stem cells, hematopoietic stem cells, or mesenchymal stromal cell culture, cryopreservation, and differentiation protocols are essential

Knowledge and experience in stem cell growth, aging and senescence studies are desirable.

Demonstrated expertise in the areas of:

RNAseq, microarray analysis, RT-PCR, ELISA, gel electrophoresis, immunoblotting and immunoprecipitation

FACS and cellular immunofluorescence

Experience in CRISPR-Cas9 or other genome-editing tools and targeted reduction of gene expression techniques is desirable.

Evidence of a contribution to research, including support for grant applications.

Well-developed laboratory, communication, interpersonal and consultative skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from a multidisciplinary background.
