Description
Argonne’s vibrant postdoc program was honored in 2011 by The Scientist as the 4th best place for postdocs to work. Argonne was recognized as a leader in striking the fine balance in providing young researchers both guidance and independence. Argonne also received the 2009 Society of Women Engineers Golden Family Award for its dedication to support family issues.
Under the guidance of a supervisor, conducts fundamental research on the synthesis, characterization and electrochemistry of materials to be used as electrodes for energy storage. Investigates the properties of new electrode assemblies and architectures, and develops new synthesis methods through the use of materials science and chemistry.
Considerable knowledge of and experimental expertise in synthetic inorganic chemistry of materials, and crystallography and the data analysis. Considerable knowledge in electrochemical methods, surface chemistry, X-ray diffraction, and spectroscopies such as FT-IR and UV-VIS and microscopy methods. Considerable understanding in the fundamental properties of materials and structures. Considerable interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills is important and necessary.
Good knowledge of analytical chemistry and powder processing methods. Good skill in data processing, evaluation, and interpretation.
This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in chemistry, materials, or related disciplines at the Ph.D. degree level with zero to five years of experience or equivalent in the scientific application of this knowledge and practical laboratory experience and experience in battery related materials.
Postdoc positions require completion of a PhD within the past three years.
Argonne National Laboratory seeks solutions to pressing national problems in science and technology. The nation's first national laboratory, Argonne conducts leading-edge basic and applied scientific research in virtually every scientific discipline. Argonne researchers work closely with researchers from hundreds of companies, universities, and federal, state and municipal agencies to help them solve their specific problems, advance America's scientific leadership and prepare the nation for a better future. Argonne is an equal opportunity employer, and we value diversity in our workforce.
