The candidate will be working in the laboratory of Prof. Amantha Thathiah and Prof. Bart De Strooper (VIB Center for the Biology of Disease and Dept. for Human Genetics KU Leuven) in close collaboration with Janssen Pharmaceutica (Beerse, Belgium).
The candidate will be a key player in a project that is focused on the validation and development of a therapeutic target for Alzheimer’s disease. The candidate will utilize in vitro, cell and neuronal culture, and in vivo approaches to profile and characterize small molecule compounds for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.

Responsibilities:
Characterize basic biochemical properties of small molecule compounds.
Develop, optimize, validate, trouble shoot and execute biochemical assays.
Develop and execute cell-based assays utilizing a variety of technical approaches.
Analyze and report the results.
Profile
Technical Skills:
Skilled in performing biochemical assays, both kinetic and binding, and experience with the analysis of binding isotherms and enzyme kinetic data.
Experience developing, validating and executing cell signaling assays.
A thorough understanding of basic enzymology is required.
Experience with standard cell biology techniques is preferred.
Ability to independently generate precise, reliable data and skillfully interpret it.
Preferred Skills/Knowledge:
A Ph.D. in Biochemistry or a related field and a minimum of 2+ years of demonstrated relevant experience.
Effective written and verbal English communication skills are required.
At least one first author paper in an international peer reviewed journal.
