Applications are invited for a two-year postdoctoral position at Newcastle University, UK, in Dr Gabriele Jordan’s laboratory. The project is funded by the Leverhulme Trust and will study women who exhibit tetrachromatic colour perception. What are the critical conditions that allow this enhanced colour vision to emerge? The methods are primarily psychophysical, but molecular genetic analyses will also be performed on a sample of volunteers. The project is in collaboration with Prof John Mollon at Cambridge University (http://vision.psychol.cam.ac.uk).
You should have a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline, expertise in Matlab or equivalent programming language, experience with psychophysics, and a willingness to master technical details. Good knowledge of statistics and organisational skills are desirable.
The psychophysics laboratory is part of the Institute of Neuroscience, which houses a number of other laboratories specialising in low- to high-level visual perception. The environment provides great opportunities for discussion with other researchers interested in visual perception and cognition.
