Required:
All applicants must either have a recent Ph.D. in organic/medicinal chemistry or a related discipline, or must be reasonably close to completing their Ph.D. thesis.
Preferred:
A solid background of organic synthesis is essential, as is good working knowledge of analytical methods such as NMR and various chromatographic tools (HPLC, LC-MS). Particularly desired is experience with the chemistry of amino acids, peptides and peptidomimetics. Demonstrated technical writing skills are essential. The candidate will be offered a range of opportunities to learn experimental and behavioral pharmacology, depending on the candidate's career goals.
This position requires engagement in the chemical synthesis of biochemical tools and evaluation of potential therapeutics for neurodegenerative disorders, particularly Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Design and synthesize small molecules for biochemical tool and lead-compound identification.
Formulate strategies for instilling favorable pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamics properties into lead compounds.
Assist in laboratory equipment organization and maintenance.
Work diligently on assigned research projects and maintain accurate records of all research findings.
Other duties as assigned.
