You will undertake independent research in the development of autonomous, deployable marine devices that use genomic or proteomic assays to sense microbes in marine system. 

Specifically you will:

• Miniaturise and automate existing genomic and/or proteomic lab-based assays. Test the miniaturised assays in the lab
• Evaluate and apply fluorescent and/or electronic detection of macromolecular interactions
• Build and integrate a miniaturised assay module into a modified, automated microbial sampler
• Develop skills in teamwork, science planning and project management

Candidates appointed as a Post doctoral fellow will have the following additional duties and key result areas:

• Produce high quality scientific and technical outputs including journal articles, conference papers and presentations, patents and technical reports.
• Develop innovative concepts and ideas for further research.
• Regularly review relevant literature and patents.
