The Center for Resuscitation Science invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Researcher position at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine within the department of Emergency Medicine. A central focus of the Center for Resuscitation Science is the development of novel biomedical devices and patient monitoring for the detection and treatment of shock, with the goal of translating any devices/discoveries into clinical practice. The Center for Resuscitation science uses optical spectroscopy, computer vision, and digital signal processing of physiological data to better understand conditions of shock and cardiac arrest as well as the protective effects of therapeutic hypothermia and mitochondrial medicine.
The Center for Resuscitation Science is currently investigating the treatment of ischemia/reperfusion injury using novel therapeutic hypothermia induction technologies that are based on micro-particulate ice-saline solutions. The successful candidate will be expected to take a central role in animal research, device development and testing, and complex data analysis. The position requires the ability to work and lead in a team setting and the ability to advance a diverse project portfolio. Demonstrated experimental expertise in transport phenomena and computer script writing are required. Experience with optical measurement techniques, mitochondrial biophysics/biochemistry, cardiovascular/pulmonary system physiology, or animal models of shock are a plus.
Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent in the physical sciences or engineering with a strong background in fluid mechanics and heat transfer. Applicants must have demonstrable expertise in computer script writing in either Python or Matlab. Preference will be given to applicants with a track record of scientific productivity. Preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate working knowledge of the cardiovascular system.
