Blood Systems Research Institute (BSRI) (www.bsrisf.org) and the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) are seeking a motivated post-doctoral fellow to work on an NIH-funded study to develop stem cell-based therapies for hemoglobinopathies (sickle cell disease and beta-thalassemia). The project will focus on the generation of transplantable hematopoietic stem cells from human iPS cells. Applicants should have a PhD, MD, MD/PhD, or the equivalent and must be a US citizen or Permanent Resident. The ideal candidate should have mammalian cell culture experience and experience with basic molecular biology techniques. Applicants with experience in culturing of human cells, including ES/iPS cells, primary somatic cells, and primary hematopoietic stem cells, will receive priority consideration. Candidates should be highly self-motivated, have strong organizational skills, be able to work in a research team environment and have experience authoring and publishing research articles.
