Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in star formation working with Steven Longmore at the Astrophysics Research Institute, Liverpool John Moores University. The aim of the project is to understand the formation and early evolution of molecular clouds and their embedded stellar populations in the extreme environment of the Galactic centre. This will be done by comparing high sensitivity and resolution data (including ALMA Cycle 0 and 1 observations) with the predictions of numerical models simulating the evolution of gas clouds in the centre of the Galaxy.
Candidates should have a PhD in astronomy/astrophysics or a closely related field. We seek candidates with experience of reducing and analysing radio (especially mm/submm) single dish and interferometric observations. Candidates with interests in star and cluster formation, the Galactic centre, and experience with radiative transfer modelling are encouraged to apply.
The position is guaranteed for a period of two years in the first instance, with a possibility of extension subject to funding. The start date will be from April 1st 2014.
