Editor / Associate Editor responsible for publications in Materials Science
Reporting Line
Reports to Editorial Director, China
Responsibilities
 To build up author/editor/reviewer network among Chinese scientific community
To keep abreast of the latest development of responsible subject areas, focus on emerging or hot topics as well as interdisciplinary research.
To plan, acquire and manage Editorial Projects. Editorial Projects include journals, books, conference proceedings and electronic database in the responsible areas.
Requirements
Master degree, ideally PhD, in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, preferably acquired in a foreign country.
Previous working experience in international science and technology publishing industry helpful.
 Experience of living / working in a foreign country outside China.
Loves science and technology publishing and is committed to take editorial and publishing as a lifelong career.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
First class presentation skills, fluent written and spoken English.

Plan, acquire and manage Editorial Projects with Chinese authors/editors directly or in cooperation with Chinese partners.
Editorial Projects include journals, books, proceedings and electronic products
Be responsible for the quality of the Editorial Projects, including metadata, academic content, language, layout, etc.
Work closely with the Editorial Director Statistics/Biomathematics and other editors by subject disciplines to achieve the targets assigned by the company.
Help present Springer’s overall statistics program and related fields at conference exhibits in China.
Requirements

Responsibilities
Help the Open Access Publishing Manager China to develop business for BioMed Central in China.?
Organize and present author workshops in universities, research institutes and hospitals in China
Attend academic conferences to promote Open Access and BioMed Central
Coordinate with global colleagues to provide customer service to authors, editors and institutions
Follow up on sales enquiries as directed by Open Access Publishing Manager or Commercial Director
Provide sales operation support to the local team
 Assist the Open Access Publishing Manager China in other related activities
Requirements
Bachelor degree or above, academic background in biology or medicine preferred
Minimum 2 years’ work experience, previous work experience in STM publishing or digital publishing preferred

Journal Development Editor, BioMed Central
Reporting Lines
Report to Journal Development Manager, BioMed Central, based in Beijing
The role:
You will ensure the success of a set of international journals by using your knowledge of the field and by working with academic Editors to identify and deliver development opportunities. Excellent communication skills and strong relationships are key to the role. This is an exciting and challenging role that provides an opportunity to stay close to the cutting edge of advances while working in a dynamic, international environment. It provides good opportunities to learn and will be a good place for long-term career development.
Key tasks
The successful candidate will:
Build knowledge of the field and the communities that the journals serve, to seek out development opportunities, translating them into actions to maintain a competitive advantage. This will involve engaging with senior scientists and obtaining their advice.
Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with academic Editors, Editorial Boards, society executives and other key organisations in the field, with the aim of building BioMed Central’s reputation and attracting submissions.
Support the management of the journals, for example responding to Editor enquiries and handling contract renewals
Ensure journals are promoted through all relevant avenues including representing the company at scientific conferences when required
      Work to launch new journals where relevant
Liaise with other internal departments to plan and implement tasks
      Assist the Journal Development Manager by conducting reports, analysis, etc.
Person specification
Educated to degree level or equivalent, preferably in life sciences or medicine. Further experience of the research environment is desirable.
Excellent communication and quick learning skills
Strong organisational skills, and attention to detail
A positive, can-do approach to problem-solving in both daily tasks and more complex troubleshooting
An active interest in academic publishing
Preferably experience of presenting information to and conducting discussions with senior academics and representatives of organisations (e.g. learned societies, libraries)

Sales Executive, BioMed Central
Reporting Line
Report to the Business Development Manager China, with a dotted line to Head of Sales in London
Purpose of the Role
To develop existing business relationships in China;
To develop new business opportunities in China.
Duties and Responsibilities
To achieve annual sales targets;
To build up the sales market and increase business remarkably;
To demonstrate our publishing program, Open Repository, and other new products to existing and potential customers;
To prepare forecasts, sales analyses, trip reports etc. and attend exhibitions as required;
To maintain regular direct contact with existing customers and prospects;
To identify prospects and cultivate relationships with new potential customers;
To respond to leads generated from marketing efforts as well as cultivating self-generated prospects;
To promote open access in China;
To provide accurate activity summaries and sales forecasts for management's review thus ensuring successful forecast management
