A FUNDED POSTDOCTORAL POSITION is available within the G. Armenise-Harvard laboratory of Axonal biology, Center for Integrative Biology (CIBIO), University of Trento.

Background: Brain wiring occurs during the development of the nervous system and ensures the formation of complex networks of inter-communicating neurons. This process is considered essential during development because these circuits, once they are formed, constitute the basis of any brain activity, from basic processing of sensory information to higher cognitive functions. Miswriring can have devastating consequences. To avoid any routing errors of axons through which neurons are connected, vast and complex arrays of regulatory mechanisms are in place during development. Elucidating these mechanisms is the object of intense research in the field. In particular non-coding RNAs including microRNAs, newly shown to be key regulatory molecules in virtually all eukaryotic cells from plant to human, have been suspected to play important roles in the establishment of neuronal networks. But their mode of functions in this process are still largely unknown.

Project Title: non-coding RNAs: Roles and Mode of Action in Brain Wiring

Scope of the project:
This project aims to uncover the non-coding RNAs that are key in the early stages of neuronal network formation, namely axon outgrowth and guidance, and to decipher their modes of action. A wide array of well-established but also cutting-age techniques will be used for the accomplishment of this project such as Next Generation Sequencing, live imaging, and chemotropic assays.

Location:
The project is to be conducted within CIBIO at the University of Trento located in the heart of the Alps. CIBIO is a new, international and multidisciplinary research center, equipped with state-of-the-art technologies.

Laboratory: The host laboratory is headed by Marie-Laure Baudet and is funded by several grant including a 1 million dollar grant awarded by the G. Armenise-Harvard foundation. It has ongoing collaborations with the University of Cambridge – UK, EMBL Heidelberg – Germany, and LANGEBIO – Mexico. More information can be found on:

Candidate profile:
Candidates with strong background in RNA Molecular Biology, and holding a PhD degree, are encouraged to apply. Prior experience with laser-capture microdissection would be desirable. The successful candidate should be highly motivated, display initiative and independence, and have excellent verbal and written English communication skills.

Interested candidates should send a CV to:
