University of Manitoba

University of Manitoba

Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics

Faculty of Health Sciences

Postdoctoral or Research Associate

Position # 28295

Expected start date – May 15, 2022 (or on a date mutually agreed upon)

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience

The Haigh Lab at the University of Manitoba located at the Cancer Care Manitoba Research Institute (CCMR) is presently seeking junior and/or senior postdoctoral researchers or research associates (dependent on years of experience post PhD). Our group is interested in further investigating the role that ZEB and SNAI transcription factors play in normal hematopoiesis and leukemic transformation.  As well, we are interested in the molecular determinants of hematopoietic lineage plasticity as it pertains to transdifferentiation and leukemic stem cell properties (see some representative publications below).

The incumbent will be responsible to work independently performing molecular experiments in consultation with Dr. Haigh, assisting in the development and implementation of leukemic models using CRISPR/Cas9 genomic editing studies and existing genetic leukemia models as well as writing project grants and related manuscripts.

The incumbent will be working with our current laboratory team as well as collaborating with other domestic and international researchers. We are looking for team players who would be able to help guide graduate students with technical aspects of their projects in the lab.

The successful candidate is expected to have a doctoral degree and have a strong background in molecular biology and/or protein biochemistry and be willing and able to apply for their own local/national and international funding after an initial 2 years of support.

The following skill set would be important (but not essential) for successfully contributing to our lab’s primary research efforts: Experience in working with mouse and/or human models of hematopoiesis and leukemic transformation or other cancer models; Experience using multicolour FACS and cytometric analysis of mouse/human hematopoietic system; Previous experience in performing ChIP/RNAseq experiments and/or working with large datasets generated by ChIP/RNAseq; Experience working with single cell RNAseq in blood or leukemic settings; Experience working with CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing systems and retro/lentiviral delivery of gRNA and shRNA cargoes to hematopoietic progenitors/cell lines; Strong background in molecular biology and/or protein biochemistry.

Initially this position will be a two-year CIHR funded project and salary level will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Initial start date is negotiable, and review of applicants will begin May 1, 2022 and will continue until position is filled.
