Katholieke Universiteit Leuven
Description
We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our team carrying out research on 2D materials (graphene, MoS2, hBN…) and topological materials (topological insulators, Weyl semimetals…). You will be part of the Quantum Solid State Physics section of the department of Physics and Astronomy of the KU Leuven. You will join several other postdoctoral researchers, PhD students and staff carrying out experimental research on condensed matter physics. You will have access to a wide range of in-house experimental facilities (https: // fys.kuleuven.be/qsp/facilities/home), in particular our scanning probe microscopy lab (https: // fys.kuleuven.be/qsp/facilities/scanning-probe-microscopy), as well as international large-scale facilities (e.g. synchrotron facilities such as ESRF).
Responsibilities
You will conduct independent research, with a scientific emphasis on 2D materials and topological materials, and a methodological emphasis on scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy.
You will be introduced to the ongoing research and will be coached into developing your own independent research.
You will contribute to the development of new projects.
You will be responsible for the management and operation of our four STM instruments (https: // fys.kuleuven.be/qsp/facilities/scanning-probe- microscopy)
You will contribute to the supervision of PhD and MSc students and other student-training tasks.
Profile
You hold a PhD in Physics or Engineering
You are experienced with scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy, in particular in UHV and low temperature
Experience with 2D materials and/or topological materials is advantageous
Experience with spin-polarized STM is advantageous
Excellent knowledge of the English language (spoken and written).
Resourceful, ambitious and internationally oriented.
Capability to work in a team as well as independently.
Offer
We offer a full-time postdoctoral research position, for one year, extendable to 3 years.
