Description
The Coarfa Lab has an opening for a motivated bioinformatics postdoctoral research fellow in the area of integrative analysis of genomic, epigenomic, transcriptomic, and proteomics informatics. This position provides exciting opportunities to contribute to a variety of disease-focused projects, including cancer proteomics and epigenomics.
Tools developed during the course of collaborative projects will be exposed via web services such as the Galaxy server.
The candidate must have experience in analysis of massively parallel sequencing data and/or proteomics data, and be familiar with widely used genomic databases and software.
The successful candidate will be expected to participate in multiple projects involving integration of high-volume data sets, design and implementation of data processing pipelines, and analyses of proteomic and epigenomic data.
The ideal candidate will have a PhD, a strong background in statistics, and either a degree in biology or at least two years of experience in bioinformatics. Experience with statistical analysis environments and libraries such as R or Matlab is recommended.
The candidate should have programming experience in a UNIX/Linux environment using scripting languages such as Ruby, Perl, or Python.
Experience with Java or C++, MySQL databases is a desirable, but not required. In addition, the candidate should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be capable of working in large collaborative teams. Due to the nature of the position, the candidate must have excellent written and verbal English skills.
Qualified candidates will be asked to complete an online programming test. Online test results will be used to evaluate candidates and serve as the basis for a formal interview in Houston.
