The Position
Postdoctoral Fellowships at CSIRO provide opportunities to scientists and engineers, who have completed their doctorate and have less than three years relevant postdoctoral work experience. These fellowships will help launch their careers, provide experience that will enhance their career prospects, and facilitate the recruitment and development of potential leaders for CSIRO.
Postdoctoral Fellows are appointed for up to three years and will work closely with a leading Research Scientist or Engineer in their respective field. They carry out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to CSIRO with the possibility of novel and important scientific outcomes. They present the findings in appropriate publications and at conferences.
Specifically, you will:
• Work closely with the Senior Nutritionist and Nutrition team on developing novel sustainable feed solutions and products for aquaculture
• Have a major focus on characterising and optimising the impact of beneficial bioactive ingredients on digestive processes and nutritional requirements in marine shrimp
• Have active involvement in applied Nutrition research with other aquatic species
• Undertake regular reviews of relevant literature and patents, and contribute to the development of innovative concepts and ideas for further research
• Produce high quality client reports and scientific manuscripts suitable for publication in high impact journals.
• Prepare appropriate conference papers and present those at conferences as agreed with your supervisor.
To be successful you will need:
• A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as aquatic animal nutrition.
• Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in animal nutrition, including the development of feed products, estimation of the nutritional value of raw ingredients, feed formulation, and nutritional experiments to estimate nutrient requirements.
• Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in biochemistry, including measuring composition of ingredients, feeds, and tissues, for a range of biochemical parameters, as well as hands-on experience with advanced laboratory equipment (eg. LC-MS, GC, ICP-MS).
• A record of publications in quality, peer reviewing journals
• A current driver's licence as travel is required between the St Lucia and Bribie Island sites
