 弗朗西斯克里克研究所生物信息学与计算生物学博士后招聘

Location: The Francis Crick Institute, Midland Road, London

  Contract: Fixed-term, 4 years

  Short summary

We seek a talented and motivated postdoc to join Nick Luscombe’s Laboratory of Bioinformatics & Computational Biology (www.crick.ac.uk/research/labs/nicholas-luscombe, www.luscombelab.org). The laboratory is happy, international and interactive, consisting of ~12 students and postdocs from around the world. Members come from a wide range of educational backgrounds, including biology, physics and mathematics.

We apply computational and statistical techniques to study genome sequence, gene expression, ChIP-seq and iCLIP data to gain insights into:

  How gene expression is controlled;

How this system regulates biologically important behaviours.

Recent research successes include studies of: long-range promoter interactions (Mifsud et al, Nature Genetics 2015);mechanisms of regulating neural development (Metzis et al, Cell 2018); and protein-RNA interactions (Attig et al, Cell 2018; Chakrabarti et al, Annu Rev Biomed Data Sci 2018; Sugimoto et al, Nature 2015). A typical postdoc in the laboratory performs an entirely computational project using publicly available datasets and also works closely with a wet-lab on primary experimental data.

  Project scope

We seek a researcher to study protein-RNA interactions in collaboration with Jernej Ule’s Laboratory of RNA Regulatory Networks. Our labs have successfully collaborated for 10 years, developing new methods for identifying protein-RNA and RNA-RNA interactions (eg, iCLIP, hiCLIP) and using these tools to investigate post-transcriptional regulation (eg, splicing control, ribonucleoprotein assembly), and the impact these have on neural functions.

The successful candidate will have the freedom and responsibility to determine a research project within this area. Example projects might include:

Examining the role of transposable elements in the evolution of splicing regulation.

Understanding the effect of RNA secondary structures on protein binding, mRNA function and neural development.

Developing new tools and techniques to detect covalent RNA modifications.

Postdoctoral Training Fellows are expected to develop and lead their own projects, contribute to other projects on a collaborative basis (both in the lab and with external collaborators) and help supervise junior members of the laboratory. The ability to work in a team is essential.

  About us

The Francis Crick Institute is a biomedical discovery institute dedicated to understanding the fundamental biology underlying health and disease. Its work is helping to understand why disease develops and to translate discoveries into new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, stroke, infections, and neurodegenerative diseases.

An independent organisation, its founding partners are the Medical Research Council (MRC), Cancer Research UK, Wellcome, UCL (University College London), Imperial College London and King’s College London.

The Crick was formed in 2015, and in 2016 it moved into a new state-of-the-art building in central London which brings together 1500 scientists and support staff working collaboratively across disciplines, making it the biggest biomedical research facility under in one building in Europe.

The Francis Crick Institute is world-class with a strong national role. Its distinctive vision for excellence includes commitments to collaboration; developing emerging talent and exporting it the rest of the UK; public engagement; and helping turn discoveries into treatments as quickly as possible to improve lives and strengthen the economy.

If you are interested in applying for this role, please apply via our website.

The closing date for applications is 02 March 2020 at 23:45.

All offers of employment are subject to successful security screening and continuous eligibility to work in the United Kingdom.
