NUIG RES 096-21 Postdoctoral Researcher - AutoCRAT/Regenerative Medicine Institute (REMEDI)/School of Medicine, NUI Galway

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full time, three year- fixed term position as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Regenerative Medicine Institute (REMEDI), National University of Ireland Galway. This position is funded by the European Union under the H2020-funded collaborative AutoCRAT project (https://www.autocrat.eu/).

Organisation: REMEDI (www.remedi.ie) is a partnership of scientists, engineers and clinicians, who all share a common vision of developing the next generation of cellular therapies in order to provide solutions for current clinical needs. Researchers work closely with the Centre for Cell Manufacturing Ireland (CCMI) and the HRB-funded Clinical Research Facility located in the adjacent Galway University Hospital. The University provides a research-friendly social and cultural environment.

Job Description:

This position is designed for assisting in research for the establishment of optimal conditions for the automated culture and characterization of induced pluripotent stem cells, chondrocytes and mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) derived from these cells, and their secreted extracellular vesicle (EV) cargo. The successful candidate will work in a strong, team oriented environment within the Orthobiology group at REMEDI and work collaboratively with AutoCRAT partners throughout Europe.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will:

•Assist in all areas associated the AutoCRAT project at REMEDI to ensure research programme requirements in terms of documentation of the project activities, milestones and major key deliverables are implemented and adhered to.

•Lead on implementation of induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) aspects of the associated research programme.

•Record and validate assigned experimental work.

•Disseminate project results and outcomes.

•Prepare periodic scientific reports to the funder.

•Maintain confidentiality of background IP, foreground IP and research results.

Essential Criteria:

•Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences.

•Strong, proven track record in research and development in the area of osteoarthritis.

•Evidence of significant experience in the development of cell-based assays including stem cell differentiation assays, ELISA, flow cytometry and molecular biology based techniques.

•Previous experience in working with advanced therapeutics.

•Proven experience in Mesenchymal Stromal Cell (MSC) and iPSC studies. •Demonstrable evidence of published work in the essential areas.

Desirable Criteria:

•Substantial experience in cell and molecular analysis.

•Experience in advanced imaging protocols.

•Expertise in data acquisition and analysis.

•A thorough understanding of translation of advanced medicinal products.

•Knowledge and understanding of pre-clinical research, translational research and clinical trial methodologies.

•Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

•Candidates must be highly organised, motivated and passionate about research and translational to novel therapeutics.

Salary: €38,631 – €47,265 per annum pro rata for shorter and/or part-time contracts (public sector pay policy rules pertaining to new entrants will apply).

Start date: Position is available from the earliest agreed start date in July 2021
