Postdoc Position In Microwaved Ionics For Low-Temperature Wireless Energy Technologies

Description

Monday 13 Dec 21

Apply for this job

Apply no later than 15 January 2022 Apply for the job at DTU Energy by completing the following form.

Are you passionate about material science and have an innovative mindset?

Are you wondering what new energy technologies will be in the future?

At DTU Energy, we are continuously striving for innovative energy solutions, and we are now looking for a postdoc to be a part of new exciting research for two years. Funded by ´VillumFonden´, we will work on MANTRA ´Microwaved Ferroelectric-Chemical Antenna for P2X ´ led by Prof. Vincenzo Esposito. The project is carried out by a dynamic team at the Functional Oxides section, which possesses excellent competencies and the most advanced investigations tools for advanced functional materials.

The project aims to fabricate nanometric material of multi-functional metal oxides materials. We will use ferroelectric ceramics and other electroceramics with electrochemical properties in a thin film form. The nanomaterials are designed to work together under electromagnetic irradiation and react with gasses and other chemical species in the environment. The ultimate aim is to synthesise valuable chemicals (P2X). This new technology has great potential in the current state-of-the-art electrolysis and opens up new batteries and other energy applications.

The postdoc project includes the following list of responsibilities:

Experimental set-up: develop a microwave system to irradiate thin-film based antennas.

Chemical synthesis: the candidate will fabricate ceramic targets for thin film deposition using the solid-state reaction and similar chemical methods.

PLD deposition: the candidate will assemble the materials by an advanced deposition technique, the pulsed laser deposition (PLD), that allows assembling the compounds with atomic precision.

Structural, microstructural and chemical compositions: the candidate will characterise the nanostructures using techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD) and electron microscopy techniques.

Electrochemical characterisation: the candidate will characterise the deposited thin films by various electrochemical methods, including AC and DC techniques.

Interface characterisation: Electrochemical nano- and micro-probes characterise electrochemical properties at the nano-architecture interface.

Other characterisation methods at various synchrotron facilities in the EU will be adopted throughout the project.

To be eligible, you have:

A PhD degree in chemistry, physics, materials science, engineering, or similar

Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken

The ability to work independently with a strong drive, to plan and carry out complicated tasks

Interest in contributing positively to a new research group with a collaborative and diverse culture

A creative mindset for solving problems and identifying new directions and opportunities in your project.

We also value (but do not require) experience with:

Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD) of ferroelectric metal oxides and/or oxygen ionic conductors.

Microwave-assisted chemistry and/or sintering.

Ferroelectrics for photochemistry or photovoltaics.

Characterisation of materials by X-ray diffraction, Scanning electron microscopy, and Atomic force microscopy.

Experience with antennas technologies.

XPS, Raman spectroscopy and other spectroscopic methods.

Electrochemical characterisation techniques (impedance spectroscopy, DC methods and cyclic voltammetry).

Assessment The assessment of the applicants will be made by: Professor Vincenzo Esposito, Dr Francesco Chiambrera, and Head of Section, Professor NiniPryds.

We offer DTU is a leading technical university globally recognized for the excellence of its research, education, innovation and scientific advice.
