About the job

We have a vacancy for a 100% Postdoc position at the Department of Computer Science (IDI) at Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (IE).

The postdoctoral fellowship position is a temporary position where the main goal is to qualify for work in senior academic positions.

The successful candidate is expected to be a member of the Learner-Computer Interaction (LCI) lab. LCI provides an interdisciplinary playground for researchers and professionals across all areas of learning technologies, psychology, learning sciences, and interaction design.

The postdoctoral fellow is expected to contribute on the design and develop of an innovative Digital Toolbox that will facilitate the implementation of research activities and expand our understanding of the impact of out-of- school activities on individuals' learning paths to science proficiency. Those objectives will be achieved collaboratively with international partners participating in the H2020 project “SURROUNDED BY SCIENCE: LEARNING PATHS TOWARDS SCIENCE PROFICIENCY”. The postdoctoral fellow will also be involved to the H2020 project “STE(A)M Learning Ecologies”.

You will report to Head of Department.

Duties of the position

The candidate will be a member of the Information Systems and Software Engineering Unit and the LCI lab, and work with the H2020 projects “SURROUNDED BY SCIENCE: LEARNING PATHS TOWARDS SCIENCE PROFICIENCY” and “STE(A)M Learning Ecologies”.

The successful candidate will work with the following task:

Support with the design and development of the technological components (i.e., the Science, Chaser and the Science Booster).

Lead the design and development of the gamification and visualization functionalities of the data to support users.

Contribute to the relevant objectives and deliverables of the projects.

Participate and contribute to the relevant communication and dissemination activities of the projects.

Author relevant to the project publications and reports.

Assist in the administrative tasks of the projects.

Required selection criteria

The position requires strong English oral and writing skills as the candidate will be interacting with a team of international researcher. The job will include providing several progress reports in English.

If the applicant's degree is not from an English-speaking country, the following tests can be used as documentation: TOEFL, IELTS and Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) or Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE). Minimum scores are:

TOEFL: 600 (paper-based test), 92 (Internet-based test)

IELTS: 6.5, with no section lower than 5.5 (only Academic IELTS test accepted)

CAE/CPE: grade B or A

In extraordinary circumstances, formal documentation of language skills can be relinquished. In such cases the candidate's language skills will be assessed in a personal interview.

You must have completed a Norwegian doctoral degree in interaction design, learning technology, game-based learning, learning analytics or equivalent is required, or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian PhD.

You must have a professionally relevant background in game technology, interaction design and learning.

Strong publication record in the area of interaction design and learning technology.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with Regulations on terms of employment for positions such as postdoctoral fellow, Ph.D Candidate, research assistant and specialist candidate.

Preferred selection criteria

Experience with participation in research projects (e.g., EU, national).

Experience with science education technologies (e.g., math, physics, coding).

Salary and conditions

As a Postdoctoral Fellow (code 1352) you are normally paid from gross NOK 563 500 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The period of employment is 2 years.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU.

After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.

It is a prerequisite you can be present at and accessible to the institution on a daily basis.

1-2 pages (up to 1000 words) letter that includes a description of how your research interests and background would fit the position, and provide your view of the main research challenges in game and learning technology.
