The Pennsylvania State University, College of Medicine invites applications from outstanding scientists with Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent degrees for one open-rank tenure-track faculty and two (2) open-rank tenure-track physician-scientist positions who have strong potential for leadership in translational and basic science research. Successful candidates will dedicate the majority of their effort to research and are expected to establish highly competitive, independent, extramurally funded research programs. Candidates are expected to participate in graduate student and/or medical education, and a minority of effort by physician-scientists will be spent on clinical service in anatomic or clinical pathology. We are actively seeking faculty whose research focus is at the forefront of Pathology, Genetics, Personalized and/or Translational Medicine. Areas of departmental research excellence include the genetic basis of pathophysiological disease and cancer, functional candidate gene analysis, transcriptomics, kinome analysis, cancer genetics, viral oncogenesis, genomics, image informatics and phenomics. The Pathology Department provides an exceptional and highly collaborative research/clinical environment with access to superb archival tissue resources, and includes a strong, collegial group of 40 faculty in the Divisions of Anatomic, Clinical and Experimental Pathology. The department hosts a thriving ACGME-accredited residency program and 4 accredited fellowship programs in pathology subspecialties. A unique, cooperative culture within the College of Medicine and between the College of Medicine and other Penn State University campuses fosters state-of-the-art translational research. The Medical Center is fiscally stable and growing, and encompasses the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute, Penn State Institute for Personalized Medicine, Penn State Children’s Hospital, an outpatient surgery center, and multiple nearby research and clinical facilities. Clinical programs include the full spectrum of medical and surgical disciplines.
