丹麦科技大学空分多路光通讯系统博士后招收

时间:2013-07-29来源:未知 作者:admin

Applications are invited for a 3-year postdoctoral position within the field of space division multiplexing for optical communication systems. The research will be carried out at the Department of Photonics Engineering of the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) in collaboration between the High-Speed Optical Communications Group and the Fiber Optics & Nonlinear Devices Group.

This postdoctoral fellowship is funded through the “e-space” (Enhanced Spatial Light Control in Advanced Optical Fibres) project supported by the Danish Council for Strategic Research.

The project can start as soon as a suitable applicant has been identified.

The “e-space” project proposes to look into moulding the spatial properties of light and studying how this new dimension can be exploited in a variety of disciplines, including telecommunications and biophotonics. In optical fibre communications, simultaneously transmitting several light beams with different spatial profiles can be used to increase the total capacity, which is urgently required to meet the exponentially increasing demand triggered by the introduction of ubiquitous broadband services. Enhanced and flexible interaction of light with matter could also be achieved by shaping the light beams, which could result in breakthroughs for biomedical applications. The “e-space” project investigates common technology platforms that can be used for such diverse applications.

In particular, the selected postdoctoral fellow will work at demonstrating novel optical communication system functionalities to be employed in future space division multiplexing systems and making use of the technologies developed within the “e-space” project. Those include novel optical fibres and methods and devices for advanced mode shaping and control. As a member of an interdisciplinary research team, the successful candidate will identify potential applications of the technologies developed within the project and demonstrate their feasibility in our systems laboratory. The topics include, but are not limited to, mode-multiplexing transmission, studies and applications of nonlinearities in few-mode optical fibres, and the implementation of networking functionalities in space division multiplexed systems.

Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent in optical communication engineering or photonics or related disciplines in physics. A prior knowledge of space division multiplexing systems will be considered a significant advantage. The research will be to a large extent experimental, and experience in the demonstration of complex optical communication systems or test of advanced optical components is expected. An interest for numerical modelling of such systems will constitute a further advantage.

The project is fairly open to new applications and a high degree of open-mindedness and flexibility, together with a taste for new initiatives, will be highly appreciated. Moreover the candidate is expected to have additional skills such as:

  • Ability to work independently, to take initiatives and to plan and run a research project
  • Ability to smoothly integrate into a dynamic research team working in multiple areas of high-speed optical communication systems
  • Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken
  • Interest for supervision of undergraduate and graduate students
