Noise-immune cavity-enhanced optical heterodyne molecular spectroscopy (NICE-OHMS) is the most sensitive laser-based spectroscopic technique for quantitative detection of molecular compounds in the gas phase. Through a successful combination of two important concepts; cavity enhancement for prolongation of the interaction length between the light and the sample, and frequency modulation spectroscopy for reduction of noise, the technique possesses a number of exceptional properties that make it of high interest for sensitive trace gas detection, e.g. an unparalleled detection sensitivity. However, primarily due to technical limitations, the technique has not yet been developed to its full potential; which would be to apply it to the mid-infrared (MIR) wavelength range in which free molecules have their strongest vibrational transitions. To this research area, we are now seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work on the development and applications of a MIR NICE-OHMS instrumentation, primarily for accurate and sensitive detection of hazardous gases and their isotopologues at trace concentrations.

We are now looking for a highly motivated and responsible candidate who holds a PhD degree in experimental physics, preferably obtained less than three years ago. You should be interested in experimental work, and have excellent experimental skills. Ideally, you should have good skills in as many of the following fields as possible: laser spectroscopy, optics, electronics, measurement technology, and programming. A strong interest in instrumental development will be seen as an advantage. The work requires a large engagement and independence. You should therefore be highly motivated and have the ability to work independently as well as a part of the research group. You should be fluent in both spoken and written English.
