The Division of Medical Physics in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is recruiting two Post-doctoral Fellows to carry out research in the area of medical imaging and image analysis with a focus on oncology applications. Specifically, we are developing a framework using quantitative PET-CT analysis to improve evaluation of tumor response to therapies in lung and esophageal cancer patients. Experience in image analysis and computational science is required. Experience in Insight Segmentation and Registration Toolkit (ITK) or PET-CT imaging is a plus. Candidates for these positions must have a Ph.D. in computer science, electrical and computer engineering, medical physics, biomedical engineering, or related physical science. Facility and Equipment:

The Medical Physics Division is currently comprised of 18 faculty physicists, 12 dosimetrists, and 10 post-doctoral fellows and graduate students. The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Maryland provides a full range of clinical services at the University of Maryland Medical System and its community practice centers. All practice sites are connected via a telemedicine network facilitating interactions between faculty. Services provided include conformal radiotherapy, IMRT, cone-beam CT-guided radiotherapy, on-line portal imaging, stereotactic radiosurgery/radiotherapy and brachytherapy. The Department of Radiation Oncology is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment including 2 TrueBeam, 4 Varian Trilogy, 2 Varian Clinac IX, 1 Varian 21EX, 1 Elekta SL linear accelerators and 4 multi-slice large bore CT simulators with 4D capabilities. The department has access to clinical PET/CT and MR scanners. Campus-wide shared resources include small-animal imaging CT, PET and MR scanners. Treatment planning systems from multiple vendors include RaySearch, Philips, Varian, BrainLab, and Nucletron. The division has 4700 sq ft of research space; inclusive of 1500 sq ft co-located with our research division and a 1000 sq ft machine shop.

The main facility for the Department of Radiation Oncology is located in downtown Baltimore, close to the Inner Harbor waterfront, professional sports stadiums a myriad of museums, musical and dramatic arts venues, wonderful walking, hiking and biking trails and BWI airport. In addition, the heart of Washington DC with all its cultural, historic and entertainment options are a short car ride or train ride away.
