A post-doctoral researcher post in the laboratory of Professor Jo Adams is available on a newly-funded grant from the MRC, for 2 years in the first instance with possibility of extension to 4 years.
Thrombospondins are very highly conserved extracellular matrix proteins for which there is emerging evidence of their roles as modulators of collagen fibril organisation. Ongoing research in the laboratory has led to a novel, unexpected model for a molecular mechanism of how thrombospondins accumulate within collagenous ECM. The project objective is to understand this process and its functional consequences, in cells and in vivo, in normal and fibrotic ECM.
The project will combine molecular, cell biological and primary cell approaches with establishing and analysing novel transgenic mouse lines on different genetic backgrounds. Relevant prior experience, preferably in the area of ECM/cell adhesion signalling, is essential. You will also be expected to have a strong interest in developing an independent research career.
For informal enquiries please contact Professor Jo Adams, jo.adams@bristol.ac.uk, 0117 3312361.
