The Singapore-ETH Centre for Global Environmental Sustainability (SEC), a joint effort between ETH Zurich and the Singapore National Research Foundation (NRF), launched the Future Cities Laboratory (FCL) as its first research program in Singapore in September 2010. By now the FCL team counts over 180 team members from all over the world. They undertake cutting-edge research in disciplines ranging from planning, engineering and environmental technologies to communications technology and architecture. The FCL researches and develops solutions and guidelines for the sustainable development of buildings, districts and regions. The FCL Research Module IX “Simulation Platform”, lead by ETH Prof. Gerhard Schmitt, aims at advancing digital technologies in urban design, modeling and simulation. In this context the FCL offers a
Postdoctoral Position – Interactive Urban Modeling, Simulation and Visualization
The goal is to advance the state-of-the-art in integrated urban modeling, simulation and visualization. You will work with PhD students of the Simulation Platform, with researchers within the FCL and the CREATE campus, and with government and industry partners. You will be responsible for the continuing development of the Value Lab Asia, a highly interactive and digitally augmented shared workspace, identify and evaluate existing and emerging techniques in urban modeling and simulation, and integrate and deploy these techniques in terms of an operational pipeline and a collaborative environment. In addition, you will design and implement the “missing links” where needed, such as user-friendly interaction techniques or innovative visualization or animation methods. You will work on the newly built CREATE Campus of the National Research Foundation of the Republic of Singapore. The position will be available from 1 September 2013. Initial appointment is 2 years.
You are interested in working in a large research project in Singapore and you have the ability to perform research that results in concrete tools and instruments applicable in real-world and industry-relevant scenarios. You are a highly motivated candidate with initiative and you enjoy working in an interdisciplinary and multinational team. A PhD degree in Computer Science or a related field, and experience in human-computer interaction, computer graphics, or visualization are expected. Industry experience is a plus.
