英国利兹大学北极研究博士后招收

时间:2013-09-10来源:博士人才网 作者:91boshi

The Fellowship is linked to the above, three-year international collaborative research project, which is funded by the EU in conjunction with HERA (Humanities in the European Research Area). The project is led by Professor Graham Huggan (School of English, University of Leeds) and involves researchers from Leeds Metropolitan University, Roskilde University, the University of Iceland, and the University of Tromsø.

The project’s main aim is to look at the increasingly important role played by cultural tourism in fashioning twenty-first-century understandings of the European Arctic. Innovatively combining postcolonial, environmental and tourism-related approaches, the project seeks to account for the social and environmental complexities of the region as these are seen in the mutual relationship between a wide variety of recent travel practices and equally diverse representations of those practices, which are framed in both verbal and visual terms (e.g. travel writing and documentary film). The project enquires into the Arctic as (1) an internally differentiated space of cross-cultural entanglement and encounter, and (2) a postcolonial space in which locally articulated desires to decolonise the region are seen in cultural-political and environmental terms. More specifically, its interlinked case studies make the case for a European Arctic that gauges the imaginative as well as geopolitical boundaries of Europe. These case studies also add to continuing debates on EU Arctic cultural policy; provide advanced understandings for European Arctic travel industries; and contribute to the de-peripheralisation of the Arctic in an expanding European cultural and economic zone.

You will be centrally involved in all aspects of this innovative project, from the undertaking of preliminary research to project-related writing and co-editing; from the co-organisation of and participation in two of the project’s main activities (international conferences in Leeds and Roskilde) to the presentation and dissemination of the project’s findings: both in print and electronically, both within the academy and beyond. At Leeds, you will primarily be associated with the School of English, but you will also be expected to liaise regularly with other members of the research consortium, both within the UK and abroad.

You will be expected to have obtained, or expect to obtain by the start date of the post, a PhD with specialisation in a relevant aspect of Arctic studies: those with interests in tourism research, postcolonial theory, ecocriticism and indigenous studies are especially encouraged to apply.

University Grade 7 (£30,424 - £36,298 p.a.)
