A post-doctoral position starting immediately will available in the laboratory of Dr Giovanni Maglia in the department of Chemistry of the University of Leuven, Belgium.
The project consists of the investigation of the activity and the folding pathways of single enzymes by single channel recordings. Small enzymes or functional nucleic acids will immobilised within the vestibule of ClyA biological nanopore either electrophoretically, genetically, via disulfide bridge, by click chemistry or by non-covalent interactions. The conformational changes associated with catalysis will then be observed by the altered ionic flow through the nanopore. The candidate will be responsible for the preparation of the suitable proteins. Therefore, expertise in molecular biology (recombinant DNA techniques, protein expression and purification) is a requirement. The candidate should also be willing to learn single-molecule techniques such as single-channel recording and/or single-molecule fluorescence.
The initial appointment will be for 2 years.
