Research Focus:
A Post Doctoral position is available at The Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute at The Ohio State University for a highly motivated, creative, independent fast learner, with strong work ethic and critical-thinking abilities. The Laboratory is investigating molecular determinants of resistance to chemotherapy and radiation, with a particular focus on pancreatic, colorectal, and lung cancer.
Summary of Duties:
Pursues specialized research training investigating novel mechanisms of DNA repair, DNA damage response signaling, chemosensitization, radiosensitization, and radioresistance in pancreatic, colorectal, and lung cancer by conducting independent research under the guidance of his scientific mentor; develops, adopts and implements new laboratory methods; performs research techniques including but not limited to cell cycle analysis, apoptosis, migration, invasion, targeted drug delivery, cell signaling (including Ras/MEK/ERKand PI3K/Akt pathways), DNA damage response pathways, and animal modeling of cancer; studies biomarkers of therapeutic efficacy, effects of radiation on stroma/vasculature, role of stromal elements on therapeutic resistance, and processes of metastasis; works to elucidate the role of novel biomarkers in pancreatic, colorectal, and lung cancer; attends and presents at national and international meetings, workshops and seminars; with Principal Investigator, writes grants to secure outside funding; may mentor or train research assistants, graduate students, medical students, or undergraduate students.
Education/Experience (PhD degree required):
Doctoral degree in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, genetics, pharmacology, or an applicable field required; experience taking a multi-disciplinary approach, including molecular biology, cell biology, and animal studies is required; experience with Microsoft computer applications required; good verbal and written communication skills, including notebook keeping strongly preferred. Experience with genomic, transcriptomic, miRNA, or proteomic profiling or mouse-modeling a plus.
