The Relational Agents Group in the College of Computer and Information Science at Northeastern University is seeking to fill a research scientist position to support several NIH- and NSF-funded projects in the area of health counseling systems. These projects bring together researchers from Computer Science, Animation, and relevant health
disciplines to develop animated conversational health counselors for health education and health behavior change interventions in preparation for clinical trials. More information on the lab is at: http://relationalagents.com
The candidate's primary responsibilities will include:
-Research on dialogue systems, virtual agents, and knowledge
representations to support automated counseling.
-Collaboration on a project to help patients find clinical
trials they are eligible for, and explaining trial protocols
to patients with low health literacy.
-Collaboration on a project to develop a conversational agent
to provide social support and wellness coaching to isolated
older adults.
-Development and maintenance of software tools.
-Supervision of graduate students and staff developing and
testing these systems.
-Coordinating with clinical partners on design, implementation and
evaluation.
Candidates should hold a doctoral degree in Computer Science (HCI, AI, Computational Linguistics), Linguistics, Health/Medical Informatics, or a related area, with a focus on dialogue systems, conversational agents, HCI, and/or intelligent tutoring systems. Requirements include proven ability to work collaboratively on interdisciplinary teams,
and the desire and ability to field robust systems that can support clinical trials.
The position is available immediately and will remain open until filled. The initial appointment will be for 12 months, with the possibility of annual extensions, subject to performance and availability of funding. Financial compensation will be competitive and commensurate with the candidate's qualifications.
