时间:2013-09-30来源:博士人才网 作者:91boshi

Grade 7 (£29,541 – £36,298)

Postdoctoral position in the laboratory of Dr Miratul Muqit to unravel the regulation and downstream function of the Parkin ubiquitin E3 ligase linked to Parkinson’s disease.

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Researcher to work in the laboratory of Miratul Muqit to elucidate the role of the Parkin E3 ligase that is linked to the development of Parkinson’s disease. This post is funded by the Wellcome Trust as part of a Senior Fellowship award to Dr Muqit. Dr Muqit’s lab recently uncovered a PINK1-dependent phosphorylation site on Parkin at Serine 65 that is critical for Parkin activation. This discovery forms a solid and exciting basisto further probe the regulation and downstream functions of Parkin.

The successful applicant will deploy state-of-the-art technologies in biochemistry, proteomics, and have access totransgenic mouse models to uncover new fundamental knowledge on the Parkin E3 ligase. There is also a major interest in Parkin in biomarker and drug development for Parkinson’s and there will be an opportunity for interaction with six major pharmaceutical companies that support the Division of Signal Transduction Therapy to accelerate these areas.

Candidate requirements:

- PhD with an outstanding track record and at least one first authored publication in an internationally recognised peer-reviewed journal.
- Strong background in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Signal Transduction and or Pharmacology would be preferable.
- Experience and strong interest in Protein Ubiquitylation research would be preferable.
- Capable of working in a team, but able to plan and work independently.
- Excellent communication skills and proficiency in English.

The position is for 3 years.

MRC Protein Phosphorylation and Ubiquitylation Unit (PPU):

The Muqit lab is based in the MRC Protein Phosphorylation and Ubiquitylation Unit (MRC-PPU), based within the College of Life Sciences at the University of Dundee. The MRC-PPU is one of the world’s most renowned centres for research on protein phosphorylation and ubiquitylation (http://www.ppu.mrc.ac.uk). Many world leading researchers in the field of signal transduction have trained within the MRC-PPU. The major aims of the MRC-PPU are to advance understanding of the role of protein phosphorylation and ubiquitylation in cell regulation and human disease, to facilitate the development of drugs to treat diseases caused by abnormalities in phosphorylation, to generate reagents and improve technologies. Another key remit of the MRC-PPU is to train the next generation of scientists who will advance our understanding in this crucial area of medical research. The MRC-PPU is in a beautiful location overlooking the estuary of the River Tay and embedded within the College of Life Sciences at the University of Dundee which is one of the premier Life Sciences research Centres in the world.
