Postdoctoral position in Yeast Redox Biology
Our laboratory at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg, Germany, investigates the role of hydrogen peroxide as a messenger in signal transduction and the principles of protein redox regulation by reversible thiol modifications. For more information please see our web page: http://www.dkfz.de/en/redoxregulation/.
We are offering a post-doctoral position to investigate intracellular H2O2 homeostasis and its relationship to metabolic, replicative and circadian cycles in yeast. The project will make use of next-generation ultra-sensitive real-time sensors for H2O2. We are combining real-time sensing with reverse genetics to dissect principles of redox homeostasis and regulation (as an example, please see our recent work: Morgan et al. (2013) Multiple glutathione disulfide removal pathways mediate cytosolic redox homeostasis. Nature Chemical Biology 9:119-125. Also see the commentary on this work: Winther and Jakob (2013) Redox control: A black hole for oxidized glutathione. Nature Chemical Biology 9, 69–70.)
We aim to fill the position in the near future. The starting date is flexible and can be negotiated. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. The position is paid according to the German TV-L salary scale (E-13), and is available initially for 2 years, with the possibility of extension. We are an English-speaking laboratory with state-of-the-art equipment, located in Germany’s largest biomedical research institute. The DKFZ offers an excellent research environment with state-of-the-art core facilities and is located centrally on the Neuenheimer Feld Campus of Heidelberg University, one of Germany’s Universities of Excellence. The institute is highly international and command of the German language is not essential.
A PhD in the Life Sciences and substantial laboratory experience are required. Only candidates with a significant background in yeast cell biology and yeast genetics can be considered. The successful candidate must be fully fluent in English, with excellent writing and communication skills. Please submit your application in a single PDF file with a letter of motivation, a statement of research interests, CV, list of publications, transcripts of academic certificates, and contact information for 2-3 referees. Please send your application to t.dick@dkfz.de.
