Postdoctoral Fellow
University of Texas at Austin - Austin, TX
Purpose This position is with the Energy Systems Transformation (EST) research group at UT Austin. The postdoctoral fellow will be working in the area of diffusion of innovations, with a focus on energy technologies.

Essential Functions Develop and implement data collection strategies for the study of processes underlying the diffusion of consumer energy technologies such as solar photovoltaic (PV), plug-in electric vehicles (PEV), and home energy management systems (HEMS) and the consequent impact on household electricity-consumption behavior. With the data collected, develop an integrated modeling framework that combines survey research, econometric modeling, and financial modeling. Implement and evaluate pilot projects to study the socio-technical system associated in the diffusion of such technologies. Mentor and collaborate with graduate students at all levels (Master's and PhD). Support Professor Rai in the execution of ongoing or new projects.

Marginal/Incidental functions Other related functions as assigned.

Required qualifications Must have received PhD within the last three years. PhD degree in Public Policy, Economics (Behavioral), Engineering (Energy systems), Sociology, or related areas. Experience with large-scale data development and integration, survey methods, time-series analysis, econometric modeling and design of experiments. Exceptional skills in building large new datasets and performing quantitative analysis, especially econometric modeling and time-series analysis.

Preferred Qualifications Experience in the areas of policy, economic, and social aspects of energy systems, preferably in new and alternative energy technologies such as solar photovoltaics, plug-in electric vehicles, and home energy management systems. Have a track record of high-quality academic publications. Excellent skills in econometric modeling. Experience with STATA and/or SAS. Experience with social networks and agent-based modeling. Able to initiate and lead research projects independently.

A criminal history background check will be required for finalist(s) under consideration for this position.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program ( ORP ) instead of TRS , subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
