The Institute of Sustainable Coastal Communities ( ISCC ) at Texas A&M University seeks a postdoctoral research associate to be part of a collaborative venture to create a fundamentally different way to identify and tackle critical coastal resiliency challenges that threaten human communities and the integrity of natural systems. These efforts will be undertaken through interdisciplinary, collaborative partnerships that will be hosted at ISCC . The partnership will focus on the Integration of Hazard Mitigation and Land Use Planning into Coastal Disaster Vulnerability Reduction and Adaptation.
Major/Essential Duties of Job
Development of measurable indicators to quantify population, physical development, and environmental/geophysical trends in coastal hazard zones. Development of a standardized method for quantitatively assessing the effectiveness of hazard mitigation and land use policies to limit or reduce development in coastal hazard zones. Engagement of local communities to develop and test policy interventions to demonstrate the effectiveness of mitigation, and predict future trends in vulnerability based on modeling of changes in hazard exposure from climate change and urbanization. Participation in and support of the collaborative partnership on this topic.

Required Education and Experience
A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in urban and environmental planning, landscape architecture, or environmental policy.

Requires the ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Ability to support cross-disciplinary collaborations. Experience in working with governments on coastal planning, and/or policy evaluation. Strong background in research design and spatial analyses methods related to policy-oriented research. The Scholar will work extensively with the Hazard Reduction and Recovery Center, Center for Housing & Urban Development at Texas A&M-College Station, and the Center for Texas Beaches and Shores at Texas A&M-Galveston.
