• Research of fundamental importance to the Australian & international grains industry CSIRO offers PhD graduates an opportunity to launch their scientific careers with a GRDC funded Postdoctoral Fellowship. Successful applicants will work with leaders in the field of science and receive personal development and learning opportunities.

Applications are invited for a three-year Postdoctoral Fellowship Fellow who will generate and analyse transgenic wheat plants containing multiple wheat rust disease resistance transgenes. You will be part of an internationally recognised, multidisciplinary team working on cereal rust disease resistance. This is an excellent opportunity to undertake research of fundamental importance to the Australian and international grains industry and to further establish a career in plant molecular biological research.

Specifically you will be responsible for:

• Production of gene cassettes containing multiple cloned rust disease resistance genes in binary transformation vectors.

• Molecular analysis of transgenic wheat plants.

• Cereal rust pathogenicity analysis of transgenic plants.

• Undertaking standard molecular biology procedures.

• Produce high quality scientific and technical outputs including journal articles, conference papers and presentations, patents and technical reports.

• Develop innovative concepts and ideas for further research.

• Regularly review relevant literature and patents.

• Participate in CSIRO’s postdoctoral training program.

Location: Black Mountain, Canberra Salary: AUD81K – AUD88K plus up to 15.4% superannuation

Pre-Requisite: A PhD, or will shortly satisfy the requirements for a PhD degree, in a relevant scientific discipline. Owing to the terms of CSIRO Postdoctoral Fellowships, candidates must not have more than 3 years relevant post doctoral experience.

You will also have:

• Experience in gene cloning and construction of transgenes.

• Experience or knowledge in the analysis of transgenic plants.

• Experience in plant molecular biology.

• Demonstrated ability to develop experimental plans and pursue novel research approaches.

• Ability to work with a broad range of people from varying research backgrounds and evidence of strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to publish the results of scientific research in scientific journals.
