时间:2013-11-05来源:博士人才网 作者:91boshi

University of Cambridge -Department of Earth Sciences
Fixed Term

Salary: £27,854-£36,298

Reference: LB01939

Closing date: 30 December 2013

Applications are invited for a three-year postdoctoral research position in the University of Cambridge funded by a grant from the Natural Environment Research Council to Prof. James Jackson. The project involves identification and characterization of active faults in central Asia and the Alpine-Himalayan region, particularly in Kazakhstan and neighbouring countries, and also in NE China. The successful candidate will work closely with Prof. Jackson and Dr. Richard Walker of Oxford University as part of a broader consortium in the NERC-funded Earthquakes Without Frontiers project (http://planetearth.nerc.ac.uk/blogs/post.aspx?id=1037&pid=329), whose principal aim is to work towards increasing resilience to earthquakes in those countries.  The research will involve analysis of fault-based geomorphology using space-based remote sensing and field studies, within the context of the regional active tectonics revealed by seismological and geodetic data.  The project is based in the Department of Earth Sciences at Cambridge, but involves collaborations with other UK and foreign institutions, in which the candidate will be expected to help play a leading role.

Familiarity with independent field work involving Quaternary geomorphology and active faulting in remote parts of central Asia is clearly an advantage, as is experience with running and organizing the logistics of field campaigns abroad.  Applicants should also have experience in several of the following areas: Quaternary dating methods, processing of space-based imagery, manipulation of digital topography and drainage data, familiarity with GPS and earthquake seismology, and knowledge of appropriate languages.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.
