Associate Principal Scientist - Oncology Bioscience
AstraZeneca is an R&D focused biopharmaceutical company dedicated to improving global healthcare with Oncology as a core therapy area for our distinctive science. We are seeking a highly motivated scientist with prior industry experience to lead the biology delivery efforts for key projects in the Oncology drug discovery pipeline. This role will require strong scientific leadership and effective working in multi-disciplinary teams
Major Responsibilities
*Plan and lead all biology efforts required to support progression of projects at all stages of the drug discovery process from target selection into the clinic. This will include effective design and execution of high quality biology studies relating to further understanding of the target/pathway, development and execution of screening cascades, understanding mode of action and selectivity, providing clear opportunities for clinical disease indications and patient selection strategies and defining rationale based combinations in support of clinical hypotheses
*Work closely with Translational Science and Clinical teams to further define patient selection biomarkers, response biomarkers and clinical plans
*Work collaboratively in a matrix environment, partnering with colleagues from multiple disciplines to accelerate advancement of compounds
*Provide mentorship, professional development, guidance and leadership to a team of dedicated scientists responsible for delivery of biology data
*Summarize key findings and present to project and senior management teams
*Identify and manage external interactions and collaborations
*Present and publish key findings externally
*Review and report data for internal documentation requirements and regulatory submissions
*Maintain knowledge of scientific advances and competitive activity from literature, scientific meetings and external contacts
Requirements
Qualifications
*Ph.D. in Cancer Cell Biology or related discipline, with a minimum of 7 years industry experience; a productive postdoctoral experience is preferred
*Strong working knowledge of Oncology
*Experience in leading of a team of research scientists
*Excellent leadership, communication and organizational skills
*Experience and working knowledge in using cell based models of cancer to deliver high quality biology data
*Experience in using various platforms to characterize and evaluate in cellular target and pathway modulation in support of drug discovery
*Demonstrated ability for creative thinking and problem solving
*Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team
