Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Seeing Data)

Seeing Data: are good big data visualisations possible?

You will take responsibility for various aspects of the research, including visual analysis, focus groups, interviews and the diary-keeping activity of research participants in four diverse geographical locations (Oxford, Leeds/Bradford, south-west Scotland and Lincolnshire). You will be an experienced post-graduate researcher with a completed PhD (or the award should be pending) and skills/expertise in visual and/or multi-modal analysis and relevant qualitative methods such as interviews and focus groups. You will have an interest in and knowledge of digital and visual culture, visual reception and data visualisation, and ideally your background will be in visual communication, to complement the expertise of existing research team members.

You will be responsible for co-ordinating and liaising with all research participants and organising research meeting and events (including focus groups, interviews and other meetings). You will engage in reviews of relevant literatures, analyse research data, co-ordinate the project website and social media presence, contribute to the production of outputs with the Principal Investigator (PI), Co-Investigator (Co-I) and Co-Researcher (journal articles, conference presentations, website resources) and oversee the project website.

This role is central to the successful delivery of the project and will involve close working and co-ordination with other members of the research team, professional data visualisers and other research participants. You will also need to work independently, be self-motivated, have excellent communication and organisational skills, and be digitally literate. The role will involve regular travel (including overnight stays) and the post holder will need to be flexible regarding hours worked.

University Grade 7 (£30,728 - £36,661 p.a.)
